A. Duie Pyle (Pyle), the premier provider of asset and non-asset based transportation and supply chain solutions in the Northeast, celebrates today as it turns 95 years old. Being a multigenerational family-owned business, this impressive accomplishment is not easy to come by – especially as 84 percent of family businesses cease operating between 0 and 89 years from the date of their founding.
Pyle was founded in 1924 by Alexander Duie Pyle. Duie and his wife, Mary Ellen, ran the business from their dining room in Coatesville, PA. Alexander and Mary Ellen’s only daughter, Eleanor Latta, encouraged her husband, Jim Latta, to step up and take over the family business after Alexander’s passing. Fast forward to today, and now Eleanor and Jim’s sons, Jimmy, Duie and Peter Latta are currently operating Pyle as it’s continuing on its family-owned and operated business for more than 95 years. Today, Pyle provides a range of integrated transportation and distribution services supported by 24 transportation service centers and 10 warehouses strategically located throughout the Northeast region. Pyle provides a variety of asset and non-asset-based services offering uniquely engineered logistics solutions including LTL, Custom Dedicated fleet operations, Warehousing & Distribution services through more than 2.5 million square feet of public and contract warehousing space, and specialized services through its Brokerage Solutions.
