EOSA’s statement following BCDC vote, attributed to Mike Jacob, VP and General Counsel, Pacific Merchant Shipping Association:

“We are disappointed by the BCDC decision to remove Howard Terminal from Port Priority Use.  Once port land is lost it can never be reclaimed, and it’s unfortunate that the commission has made this determination.

Nonetheless, this is far from the end of the road, with many important votes and hurdles still ahead.  Howard Terminal currently plays a critical role at the Port of Oakland, the most vital import-export gateway in Northern California, and as we work through the current supply chain crisis Howard Terminal is playing an important and critical role in our response to the needs of our customers.

We will continue to advocate for the future of the Port of Oakland and the jobs which are dependent upon its success. We hope that the City Council and others see through the A’s efforts to replace maritime industry assets with a glorified entertainment development that could be built anywhere in Oakland other than on our critical working waterfront."
