Hapag-Lloyd provided this update concerning the detention and demurrage invoicing for the United States in line with the Ocean Shipping Reform Act (OSRA) 2022. To ensure compliance and standardized invoicing process across all terminals, effective July 1, 2022, all demurrage invoice requests should be submitted via Hapag-Lloyd's invoice request web form.

  • Hapag-Lloyd will invoice carrier demurrage separately from Terminal Storage for New York / New Jersey ports. Terminal storage will be paid directly using terminal portals.
  • Hapag-Lloyd will invoice demurrage inclusive of terminal storage in one combined invoice for the rest of the U.S. ports.

The Hapag-Lloyd demurrage processing will change as detailed below, as this will no longer be paid to the terminals. The updated Hapag-Lloyd demurrage tariff, reflecting the changes for these terminals, can be found here.

  • To speed up our invoicing process and to avoid additional cost or cargo release delays to customers, Hapag-Lloyd has enhanced their “Port terminal demurrage invoicing tool” and all customers should now use this tool to generate demurrage invoices.
  • In compliance with OSRA-2022, Hapag-Lloyd pro-forma demurrage invoices, available only on the company's webpage Invoice Pro-forma Retrieval for Demurrage / Storage charges, capture all required information for expediting the cargo release process.

To ensure compliance and standardized invoicing process across all terminals, effective July 1, 2022,  only submit demurrage invoice requests via Hapag-Lloyd invoice request web form.
