US prosecutors unsealed charges against Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska and three others, charging them with violating US sanctions against him and one of his companies, Basic Element.

Along with Deripaska, the defendants include Olga Shriki, a New Jersey resident who is a naturalized US citizen. Shriki was arrested today, Manhattan U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.

Deripaska was targeted for US sanctions, along with several other leading businessmen close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, following the invasion of Ukraine.

“In the wake of Russia’s unjust and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, I promised the American people that the Justice Department would work to hold accountable those who break our laws and threaten our national security,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “Today’s charges demonstrate we are keeping that promise.”
