The Port Authority of Valencia expresses its gratitude and satisfaction for the conclusions of the Puertos del Estado report and ratifies its environmental commitment to make the new north container terminal a model infrastructure at international level

Puertos del Estado has informed the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) this midday that the project of the New North Terminal of the Port of Valencia does not require a new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

The documentation that Puertos del Estado has sent to the PAV includes two reports. The conclusions of the legal note state that the current EIS is valid until the completion of the Terminal. "Since the project "Expansion of the Port of Valencia" has a favourable Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and the works began to be carried out within a year of its publication, it is considered that the EIS is valid, since it does not fall under any of the expiry conditions of the legislation on environmental assessment, including the current Law 21/2013, of 9 December, on environmental assessment".

The second report makes a series of technical-environmental observations on aspects that should be incorporated into the project to reinforce the guarantees of sustainability. In this case it is concluded that "the modifications proposed in the preliminary draft of the works to be carried out by the Port Authority for the development of the container terminal in the North extension of the port of Valencia do not appear to fall under any of the assumptions of article 7.2.c of Law 21/2013 on environmental assessment, which determines when modifications to projects that have an EIS in force must be subject to a new environmental assessment".

Appreciation and satisfaction at Valenciaport

The PAV wishes to express through this note its gratitude and satisfaction for the report submitted by the technicians of Puertos del Estado. The APV will comply meticulously and scrupulously with each and every one of the observations made by Puertos del Estado, given that it fully shares the objectives of respect for the environment and sustainability of the OPPE.

The environment, decarbonisation, the incorporation of alternative energies, sustainability, eco-efficiency, ... have been fundamental objectives for more than 20 years when planning projects related to the ports of València, Sagunto and Gandia.

In recent years, Valenciaport has made the environment a "strategic objective", present in the business, investment and future plans for any type of initiative, which is why the new north container terminal will be a model infrastructure on an international level, of which the Valencians and the Port Community of Valencia can be proud.

The Port of València is a company that drives innovation and the future, and is increasingly becoming an example of social and environmental commitment. In the next few days, the PAV will study the reports sent today by Puertos del Estado to assess their scope in detail.
