The newly formed Utah Inland Port Authority (UIPA) Board of Directors met together for the first time Wednesday afternoon at the Utah State Capitol. After the new board members were sworn in by a public notary, Miles Hansen, president and CEO of World Trade Center Utah, was unanimously elected as the new board chair. Dan Hemmert, executive director of the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO), was unanimously approved as the board’s vice-chair. The other board members sworn in were Rep. Mike Schultz (R-Hooper), Sen. Jerry Stevenson (R-Layton), and Salt Lake City Councilwoman Victoria Petro-Eschler.

UIPA Executive Director Jack Hedge and Deputy Executive Director Jill Flygare both shared some major milestones of the previous year and outlined their priorities for the year to come. The board reviewed existing policies and heard a legislative update from Mrs. Flygare. The members agreed on the necessity for additional board meetings to get up to speed on current projects and familiarize themselves with happenings within the inland port jurisdictional area. Chair Miles Hansen took public comments for the remaining time of the meeting and thanked each constituent for their enthusiasm and input. The board meets again in closed session Thursday morning.
