Gennep, Netherlands/Gütersloh, Germany – Operations commenced today at the new Arvato SCM Solutions logistics center in Gennep, Netherlands, an event that was marked by an opening ceremony for customers and employees. At the modern facility with an area of 30,000 m2, the leading international provider for supply chain and logistics services will process a comprehensive range of logistics and fulfilment tasks for customers in the high-tech, consumer goods and healthcare sectors.
“We see the new logistics center as being an important building block that will enable us to keep growing in our target market in the Netherlands,” said Andreas Barth, President Hightech & Entertainment at Arvato SCM Solutions. “Many of our international customers require a centralized logistics warehouse in Europe to use as a base for providing a just-in-time individualization and distribution services.”
The new location in Nord-Limburg offers the best conditions for this. It has excellent transport infrastructure with fast connections to the road networks in Germany, the Netherlands, and the rest of Europe. Additionally, multimodal transport solutions are possible because it is only a short distance from domestic terminals for transport by sea, rail and inland waterway vessels. Andreas Barth: “This makes the Netherlands an ideal location within Europe, including for multi-channel and e-commerce shipping. Our customers also know the value of our highly trained staff.”
By building the new distribution center, Arvato created jobs for around 500 members of staff. “We are currently processing the first deliveries for our customers and by autumn we will have built up to operating at full capacity,” explains Martijn Nielen, Director Hightech & Entertainment Netherlands at Arvato SCM Solutions. “That equates to an annual shipment volume of around fifteen million articles.”
Alongside the normal distribution services, the site also offers more complex services such as bundling, product configuration, returns management and other value-added services. When it comes to security, the site is TAPA ‘A’ certified – the highest level for the transport and logistics industry – as well as having AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) status and being listed as a regulated agent. As well as this, a bonded warehouse license maximizes customer flexibility regarding customs requirements.
Gennep is the third location run by Arvato SCM Solutions in the Netherlands. “The new warehouse capacities mean that we are well positioned for the continued growth that we and our customers have been achieving for some years now,” says Andreas Barth. The service provider is equipped for further growth in business, according to its President for Hightech & Entertainment: “We are currently in discussions with other potential customers and we can increase the warehouse space in Gennep by a further 40,000 m² if required.”
