ATA Freight, a leading global logistics and freight forwarding services provider, has again demonstrated its sustainability leadership by reaching a new tree planting milestone. The company has been supporting Trees for the Future (TREES) since 2011. It has continued that tradition of support of this 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty by training farmers to regenerate their land. With its tree planting support in 2022, ATA Freight has now reached a milestone of having supported the planting of 272,000 lifetime trees in 106 forest gardens, as well as with the restoration of 106 acres of land. Through its efforts, ATA Freight has also helped take 848 farming families off a path of hunger and poverty and onto one of independence and self-sustainment. The trees for which ATA Freight is credited have been planted in the Kaffrine Region of Senegal. As an organization, TREES has already surpassed the plating of 300 million trees.
ATA Freight Chief Executive Officer Matt Goker, recognized for his advocacy on environmental preservation and sustainability, stated, “It is critical that each of us as individuals and as corporate citizens do our part to protect our planet and preserve its natural resources. We are constantly being reminded of the damages our planet as already sustained. We have seen climate change wreak havoc in many regions of the world. Not only are our natural habitats being destroyed, but they are compromising the lives of animals, many of which are already in the endangered species category. Through our relationship with TREES, we are helping to make an important contribution toward turning the tide.”
ATA Freight’s environmental advocacy is evident in its many sustainable practices and support of various related initiatives including the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Climate Agreement, as well as the Smart Freight Centre and its Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework. Goker is also actively driving the Company’s R&D activities to focus on sustainable initiatives as evidence by its development of tools to help shippers measure their shipment’s CO2 emissions and then offset their carbon footprint through an accompanying tree-planting carbon offset program.
ATA Freight’s leadership on the sustainability has been recognized with the conferring of EcoVadis Bronze Medal Sustainability Leadership Award in 2022.
