Sixty show horses, together with grooms, recently arrived at Athens International Airport to take part in the European Young Rider Junior Championships event which took place in Athens. The two A300-F flights, each carrying 30 horses, were carried out by MNG arriving on 2 July and departing after the event on July 10. Goldair Handling performed ground handling. The shipments were carried out with no problems following the highly successful horse shipments during the 2004 Olympic Games. This kind of special shipment demonstrates the airport’s ability to deal with all kinds of cargo and aircraft.

Meanwhile, cargo volumes continue to increase steadily as the recently published figures show ’ 1st semester 2006: 58.3m kilos, a 5.7% increase over 2005 with June showing a healthy 8.7% increase over June 2005 with 10.5m kilos.
