BDP International (BDP), a leading privately owned global logistics and transportation solutions company, received the 2020 Responsible Care® Partner of the Year Award from the American Chemistry Council (ACC) at their virtual Responsible Care Conference. This marks the third time BDP has received the award from the ACC, with previous recognitions in 2016 and 2017.

The Responsible Care Partner of the Year Award recognizes the superb performance and safety record of companies involved in the distribution, transportation, storage, use, treatment-disposal, and/or sales and marketing of chemicals. It also recognizes companies and their commitment to go above and beyond the standard course of business to ensure safety and compliance in all practices.
“We are honored and humbled by this recognition from the ACC,” said BDP Chairman and CEO Richard J. Bolte, Jr. “The guiding principles of the ACC’s Responsible Care program directly align with BDP’s ongoing commitment to implementing the most stringent and methodical practices for handling chemical shipments and to our pledge to operate with the utmost discipline and highest ethical standards. BDP is able to provide our customers with the highest level of expertise that is required for moving these complex products, especially during a time when chemicals play such a critical role in the ongoing battle against COVID-19.”
Responsible Care is the chemical industry’s health, safety and environmental performance improvement initiative. Since its launch in 1988, Responsible Care has been recognized as one of the most successful environmental, health and safety initiatives advanced by industry. Responsible Care is a commitment to continuous improvement in all aspects of chemical industry operations — from employee safety to facility security to protection of the health of the communities in which its members operate and the environment as a whole.
“Responsible Care is the keystone of the chemical industry’s sustainability commitment, helping ACC member and Responsible Care Partner companies operate with environmental protection, health, safety and security as our top priorities,” said ACC President and CEO Chris Jahn. “The people and companies being honored today have gone above and beyond to drive continuous improvement in the safety and sustainability of our chemical processes, products and operations.”
BDP’s 2020 entry focused on the company’s Global Dangerous Goods Policy, which was unveiled in 2019 and ensures that all BDP personnel are specifically trained in the handling of hazardous shipments within the full accordance of the IMDG code, IATA regulations, and other industry regulatory practices. This new global policy was the catalyst for specifically developed global ocean and air export and import processes for BDP employees, who are required to implement and comply with the new format. These strict adherences also apply to BDP’s partners, agents, and contractors, ensuring a comprehensive knowledge of the safe storage, handling, and transportation of dangerous goods on behalf of BDP’s customers.
Chemical logistics accounts for more than 65 percent of BDP’s business. As such, internal operating practices and information systems have been built to handle the unique logistics requirements of chemical-related shipments. BDP provides training and information about the ever-changing hazardous materials safety, environment and security compliance regulations for clients and employees. Since its founding, there have been no fatalities throughout BDP’s global workforce.
With Responsible Care accreditations around the world, BDP supports the initiative by participating in Responsible Care events, achieving Responsible Care accreditations and serving on various ACC boards. BDP has been a certified Responsible Care Partner signatory since 2002.
