Continuing the streak of strong growth, the Port of New York and New Jersey had its best March in its history.

Total volume for March 2018 was 572,576 TEUs.  The Port experienced a 12.7 percent growth from March 2017 volume of 508,270 TEUs.

The Port saw significant growth in both imported and exported TEU loads. The growth is broken down to:
Record rail figures were seen in March with a total of 52,993 lifts.  This is an 18.4% increase in volume from March of last year.  2018 first quarter rail lifts are 17.8 percent better than in 2017 first quarter.

  • March 2018 imported TEU loads increased 15.5 percent when compared to March 2017, exported TEU loads increased 14.8 percent.
  • 2018 first quarter total volume of 1,680,361 TEUs (inclusive of loads and empties) is 9.6 percent greater than the 2017 first quarter figure of 1,533,004 TEUs.
  • March 2018 exported empties, in TEU volume, increased 6.1 percent from the same month in 2017.  2018 first quarter exported empties, in TEU volume, are 4.5 percent greater than in 2017 first quarter.

Auto volume in March 2018 was 49,206 units – a 5.8% increase from March 2017.  2018 first quarter auto volume of 142,167 units is 4 percent greater than 2017 first quarter volume.
