CMA CGM has been informed by the National rail service provider Transnet TRF that KwaZulu–Natal has been severely impacted with rail infrastructure damaged by washaways and mudslides. The Natal Container Corridor rail line (the NATCOR) service rail linking Durban, South Africa and Gaborone, Botswana is heavily impacted.

TRANSNET has declared force majeure as of April 25th, 2022 as per note attached. The preliminary damage report of the rail track is under assessment with an estimated time of 7 (seven) weeks to resume single line operations on the mainline. At the end of June 9th, 2022, TRF will review the situation and advise accordingly in terms of further actions to be taken.

For the containers already being discharged in Durban and for the floating cargo, to avoid further delays and increased congestion at the port of Durban, we would recommend that road transport solution is prioritizde in coordination with our Botswana Agency Team or South African Intermodal Team @ [email protected].
