Colonial Pipeline Co. proactively shut its Lines 1 and 2 refined products pipelines early Tuesday due to power outages in the Houston area following landfall of Hurricane Nicholas.

Both pipelines are critical conduits for the transportation of fuels from the U.S. Gulf Coast to the Northeast. Colonial’s Line 3 and Line 4 pipelines are still in service, according to a notice the company sent to shippers.

Storm Nicholas made landfall in Texas earlier on Tuesday, bringing torrential rainfall that threatens to unleash flooding in Houston and parts of Louisiana still recovering from Hurricane Ida two weeks ago.
