The expansion of La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT), which is the Contship Group's Container Gateway Terminal in La Spezia, is taking a significant step forward: the call for tenders for the construction of the first performance lot of the new Ravano terminal has been officially published.

The construction program of the container terminal is developed in the executive project, divided into 2 performance lots. Interested parties will have until 3 September at 12.00 am to submit their candidature. The winner will be announced by the end of December.

"We are adding an important element into our strategic development plans through which LSCT aims to become a reference point in global trade dynamics by conquering new traffic shares" commented Matthieu Gasselin, CEO of the Contship Italia Group.

Commenting on the intense work in the last few months before the official launch of the tender, Gasselin said: ‘I would like to thank the Port Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea and the Municipality of La Spezia. Thanks to our close and productive cooperation, we have fulfilled our commitment and met the shared deadlines for publication. Now, we are eagerly awaiting the certificate of explosive ordnance disposal, which is another crucial step toward realizing our ambitious project. In little over a year, together with the entire Contship team, we have achieved numerous important objectives, including volumes increase, internalization of the carousel service, and the launch of the tender for the new Ravano terminal construction. Witnessing the growth and progress of our Group makes me proud."

Thanks to the expansion, Contship aims to improve its teu handling capacity from 1.4 to 2.0 million and to increase rail use. The goal is to reach 50% of the total throughput, meeting the demands of an increasingly demanding market focused on speed, efficiency, and sustainability of the supply chain.
