Sutton, who will continue to be based in Jacksonville, Fla., joined Crowley in 2015 as manager of health and safety for the company’s petroleum services group. He advanced to director of health and safety in 2016, and then became managing director of health, safety, security, quality and environment (HSSQE) in 2018 – a position he has held until this latest promotion.

Prior to joining Crowley, Sutton was a HSSE manager for Horizon Lines and a fleet security auditor for Royal Caribbean Cruises International. After serving in the Royal Australian Navy from 1990 to 1994, he was an officer in the New South Wales (Australia) Police Department for nearly a decade. He earned a degree in law enforcement from Charles Sturt University.

Sutton replaces Steve Demeroutis, who recently retired as vice president after a long career with Crowley.

Crowley Shipping owns, operates and manages a diverse fleet of vessels. Vessels include conventional and dual fuel (LNG) container ships, tankers, and ship assist and offshore services tugboats, and barges. In addition, the shipping group provides engineering and project management, as well as naval architecture through Seattle-based subsidiary Jensen Maritime.
