During the IAA exhibition in Hanover, DB Schenker, one of the world’s leading logistics service providers and the leader in European land transport, and Krone, a leading trailer supplier, completed the handover of the first of 200 Krone Mega Liners for DB Schenker’s French network.

DB Schenker’s goal is to increasingly shift from trailer transports to megatrailer transports so that more goods can be transported with one truck. The first step here will involve the conversion of the first trailers at DB Schenker in France.

“The acquisition of the megatrailers offers us new opportunities to operate our network efficiently and thus also become more environment friendly,” says Wolfgang Janda, Executive Vice President, Head of Network & Linehaul Management at DB Schenker. “This marks yet another step in our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and become carbon-neutral by 2040.”

DB Schenker will acquire 200 of more than 2,100 French trailer with Krone Mega Liners. The deployment will start this year. In future, mega trailers with a double-deck system will be used without exception in network transports. This will be followed by a gradual conversion to mega trailers throughout Europe. Although this will initially lead to additional costs, in the long term the company expect more efficiency, it will be possible to transport more cargo with the same number of vehicles - and CO2 emissions will also be reduced. The logistics provider expects to be operating around 6,300 megatrailers in Europe by 2029.

“On behalf of the entire Krone team, I would like to thank DB Schenker for the great trust it has placed in us,” says Ingo Geerdes, Managing Director Sales at Krone. “We particularly appreciate the fact that the 200 Krone Mega Liners will be part of this special sustainability initiative by DB Schenker. Krone also congratulates DB Schenker on its 150th anniversary! We look forward to working together on more outstanding projects in the future, and to being a reliable partner.”
