Today, the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) Board of Commissioners appointed Obra S. Kernodle IV to the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Kernodle brings more than 20 years of extensive business, government, and community knowledge to the DRPA and PATCO Executive Leadership Team.

“On behalf of our Board and employees, I welcome Obra Kernodle to our team,” said DRPA Chairwoman Cherelle L. Parker. “Obra is a passionate and results-driven professional who will aid in moving the Authority closer to realizing its vision of a world-class stewardship organization that consistently meets the highest standards of excellence in delivering its services. The Authority is fortunate to have him serve as the agency’s Deputy CEO.”

Recently, Kernodle served as Executive Deputy Chief of Staff for Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. Previously, he had played a vital role on the Wolf campaign as both deputy Campaign Manager and Political Director, then a senior advisor for Governor-elect Wolf’s transition team.

“Obra has made significant contributions throughout my administration and has consistently demonstrated his passion for serving the citizens of Pennsylvania,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “I know he will bring the same high-level of enthusiasm and commitment to the DRPA.”

Kernodle’s professional background also includes his work with Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter as Deputy of Legislative Affairs, in which he helped to coordinate the city’s Actual Value Initiative.

“Obra’s extensive knowledge about business and government, along with his passion for community engagement, will help shape the Authority’s strategies to manage and maintain its transportation services and infrastructure to meet current and future needs,” said DRPA Vice Chair Jeffery L. Nash.

“Obra’s energetic, problem-solving mindset will be a great fit with our leadership and he will serve a key role within the Authority,” added DRPA CEO John T. Hanson. “I am looking forward to working with him as we continue our commitment to stewardship of our transportation assets for the benefit of the community we serve.”

Kernodle currently sits on the boards for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, Visit Philly, and Welcome America.
