June passenger numbers in Frankfurt up 1.4 percent year-on-year to 5.6 million travelers – Traffic at Fraport’s Group airports worldwide rising to 18.9 million passengers overall in June.
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) welcomed some 6.0 million passengers in July 2024 - an increase of 0.5 percent compared to the same month last year. The most popular destinations within Europe during July’s summer travel season included the Balearic Islands, Portugal and Italy. Meanwhile, long-haul traffic saw ongoing strong demand particularly to and from the U.S. In the Far East, traffic to and from China rebounded dynamically by 35.5 percent year-on-year. The passenger load factor, indicating the capacity utilization of aircraft, also developed positively in the month under review. This key indicator reached a new record high of 86.1 percent in July, surpassing the old record from August 2015 by 0.2 percentage points. Nevertheless, passenger volumes for July 2024 were still about 12.7 percent below the corresponding figure for pre-pandemic 2019. 1
Most airports across Fraport’s global network recorded passenger growth in July 2024. Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in Slovenia registered an 8.1 percent traffic increase to 161,783 passengers. The two Brazilian airports of Fortaleza (FOR) and Porto Alegre (POA), however, saw combined traffic plummet by 48.6 percent year-on-year to a total of 632,104 passengers. This was mainly due to the suspension of flight operations at POA since May 3 caused by the heavy flooding in the Port Alegre region. Currently, a contingency schedule is in place for POA, with only a limited number of domestic flights being operated from a nearby military base. Meanwhile, some 2.2 million passengers traveled via Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) in July, representing a surge of 12.6 percent year-on-year. Fraport’s 14 Greek regional airports reported passenger growth of 3.8 percent year-on-year to a total of 6.4 million travelers. At the Bulgarian Twin Star airports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR), combined traffic slipped by 1.7 percent year-on-year to 796,997 passengers. In contrast, passenger traffic at Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera advanced by 2.1 percent year-on-year to about 5.6 million travelers.
The total passenger volume at all airports actively managed by Fraport in July 2024 remained roughly on par with the prior-year month, at around 21.8 million overall.
