Logistics company supports Austria’s biggest cycle race and awards the orange jersey to the “Best Austrian Cyclist”.
Lauterach - In 54 days’ time, the starting gun will be fired in the Upper Austrian town of Wels for the 71st Tour of Austria. Between July 6 and 12, about 150 cyclists from around the world will be competing for victory over a total of seven stages. Not only will Gebrüder Weiss be responsible for the logistics during this race right across Austria, it will also be awarding the orange jersey to the “Best Austrian”, the Austrian cyclist who is in the lead in the overall assessment after each stage. “We are delighted to be a partner for this Austrian sporting highlight again. With our logistics know-how and our passion for team sport, we are very keen to play our part in ensuring a successful Tour of Austria. We hope that the seven stages will be very exciting for all the cyclists and spectators,” says Jürgen Bauer, member of the Management Board at Gebrüder Weiss.
“During the Tour of Austria, strength, stamina and teamwork are essential in achieving success. And behind the scenes, too, when it comes to logistics, these qualities are also extremely important to ensure a successful event. In the course of the tour, many tons of materials have to be reliably transported across Austria every day. With Gebrüder Weiss, we have a professional and local logistics company on board that we know we can rely on completely,” says tour director Franz Steinberger.
The statistics for the Tour of Austria are impressive: every day, five trucks will move about 200 tons of materials, and about 2,500 meters of crowd barrier and 25 kilometers of banner wall have to be set up and dismantled each day. The tour retinue consists of about 570 people who will require in total 2,850 beds over the course of the race and will cover a distance of about 100,000 kilometers.
