Jack Hedge presented his intent to retire in October to the Utah Inland Port Authority Board of Directors at today’s board meeting. Mr. Hedge came to Utah in 2019 from the Port of Los Angeles where he managed a $4 billion portfolio and more than $270 billion in cargo annually. “When I took this job, I knew it would be challenging to build something from the ground up – but that challenge was also why I took the job,” said Jack Hedge, outgoing UIPA President.

“Utah legislative leaders had the vision and initiative to create this amazing statewide governmental agency – that can and will revolutionize the supply chain. I have been honored to bring my industry experience as we set the course. Now is the perfect time for me to move on to other pursuits. I will always be a cheerleader for Utah and look forward to continuing my support of the Port Authority efforts," Hedge continued.

Some big milestones for UIPA under Mr. Hedge’s leadership include:

• Established the original policy, programs, and protocols from start-up to functioning state authority

• Established strategic vision for Authority

• Envisioned and established a statewide model

• Created relationships with coastal ports, federal agencies, the national freight rail system, and numerous ocean carriers

• Provided critical support in passing two pieces of landmark federal legislation

• Led the creation of a strategic business plan

• Drew praise from the Federal Maritime Commissioner for Utah’s model

• Hosted first logistics forum in Utah, including national participation

• Established logistics/supply chain in Utah as a public policy discussion

“Jack helped to put the Utah Inland Port Authority on the map,” said Dr. Noel Hacegaba, Deputy Executive Director at the Port of Long Beach. “His vision and systems approach to the supply chain led him to establish strategic partnerships with coastal ports like Long Beach that maximize the value proposition of the UIPA in the critical areas of efficiency, connectivity, and sustainability. Through our partnership, we are literally building the longest port in the nation.”

“The logistics experience Jack Hedge brought to the Port Authority provides the foundation we will work from today. We appreciate his service," said Rep. Mike Schultz (HD12), UIPA Board of Directors.

At the helm of UIPA for just over three years, Mr. Hedge's last day will be Oct. 28, 2022. Ben Hart was appointed incoming executive director at the UIPA board meeting in August 2022.
