Interstate Cold Storage (ICS), a leading provider of cold storage warehousing, continues to exemplify strong family values within its operations. As a family-owned and operated business since 1973, the company has cultivated an environment where family values and connections are central to its mission.

Founded by Vincent Tippman, an innovator in the refrigeration and heat transfer industry, Interstate Cold Storage has since grown to become one of the largest public cold storage warehousing companies in North America. With five locations and nearly 22 million cubic feet of refrigerated warehouse space, the company remains committed to maintaining a work culture that fosters long-term employee retention.

Mike Browning, a facility manager at the Columbus II facility in Ohio, has been with Interstate Cold Storage for nearly 25 years. His journey with the company began at the smaller Columbus I facility, where he started as a case picker before eventually climbing the ranks to manage the larger Columbus II facility on Setterlin Drive. Over his tenure, Mike has experienced firsthand the company’s supportive, family-oriented culture.

Recently, Mike’s eldest son Jonathan joined Interstate Cold Storage as a forklift operator. Although their paths do not intersect daily due to their roles in different areas of the business, the pride that Mike feels knowing his son is part of the Interstate Cold Storage family is immense. Jonathan’s return to the company, after a previous stint as a temporary employee, highlights the welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.

“One of the main reasons I have stayed with the company for so long is because of the family-oriented culture and the ownership,” said Mike Browning. “It’s a place where I can make a good living while enjoying what I do. Seeing my son work hard and grow within the same company is incredibly rewarding. I’ve always had a picture of us together in my office. That we share the same hallways gives me immense pride.”

Interstate Cold Storage’s commitment to family values is not just a principle, but a deep-rooted practice that has been woven into the fabric of the company since its inception. With aspirations for a fifth generation of family members to join the business, the company looks forward to continuing its family-first legacy.
