Prevent Heatstroke and Reduce Workload Onboard

TOKYO—Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President & CEO: Junichiro Ikeda) today announced the trial introduction of specialized cooling-work suits for crewmembers, developed by Teijin Limited (President & CEO: Jun Suzuki; headquarters: Osaka-shi, Osaka), in cooperation with MOL, on a vessel operated and managed by Mitsui O.S.K. Kinkai, Ltd. (President: Kenichi Nagata; headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo).

The goal of the trial is to prevent crewmembers from heatstroke and reduce their workload. The work uniforms are equipped with rechargeable cooling fans for them working under intense heat on an Mitsui O.S.K. Kinkai’s cargo vessel in service between Japan and Middle East.

The fans draw in outside air and circulate it between the two layers of the uniform, which covers both the front and back of the body. The air flows evenly throughout the uniform, providing a significant cooling effect that enhances the crewmembers’ comfort and increases their work efficiency.
