Mary Jo Muoio received the coveted NCBFAA Centurion Award during the 50th Annual Conference Golden Jubilee in New Orleans during the closing reception on Wednesday evening, April 26.
NCBFAA presented this award to Muoio, a longtime NCBFAA Member and Customs Committee Chair, Past President, and Senior Counselor of the association, in appreciation of her outstanding vision, leadership, and dedication to the betterment of the international transportation community.
“I am truly honored during this very special 50th anniversary of our NCBFAA Annual Conference to have this opportunity to bestow upon Mary Jo the Centurion Award,” said NCBFAA President Jose D. (JD) Gonzalez. “We are truly an outstanding association today due to her many years of unselfish dedication to the improvement and enhanced professionalism of our U.S. customs brokerage industry.”
The NCBFAA Centurion Award was established in 2006 by then NCBFAA President Federico (Kiko) Zuniga to be the association’s highest recognition to an individual member for his or her dedication to the customs brokerage industry. Muoio will join an esteemed list of past recipients, including Arthur Litman (2006), Harvey Isaacs (2007), Paul Wegener (2008), Leonard Shayne (2009), Peter Powell Sr. (2010), Harold Brauner (2011), Kenneth Bargteil (2013), Mary Ann Comstock (2015), William (Billy) App (2019), Jonathan Kent (2020), and Edward Greenberg (2021).
"When I think of Mary Jo’s accomplishments, I am reminded of the progression of her career and the respect and admiration she continually receives,” said Federico “Kiko” Zuniga, a Past NCBFAA President and NEI Marketing Director. “The award that she has received represents the highest level of respect for an individual in this association. Being a leader for our association, leading the fight for what is right for our industry, and doing it with an uncanny amount of polish and clarity has highlighted her career. It has been my privilege to have served alongside her."
Muoio currently serves as Director of Customs and Trade Programs for the Global Mile Product at INTL. She was previously Senior Vice President of Trade Services at Geodis USA and before that was Senior Vice President of Barthco International, Inc., (acquired by Geodis) for nearly 40 years. Muoio is also a licensed customs broker, passing the exam with the highest score in the nation.
She was recently named NCBFAA Customs Committee Chair-Emeritus, after serving many years as Customs Committee Chair following her two terms as NCBFAA President and NCBFAA Chair. Before being elected as the first female President of the association, she served as Vice President, Secretary, and Board of Director Member, and stood in various key Association committees.
Muoio also served as Vice President for Imports of the New York/New Jersey Foreign Freight Forwarders and Brokers Association for many years, resigning to focus her energies on the national level. She continues to serve on the Board of Governors. She is a Past President of the Philadelphia Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association, Inc. She concluded two terms of service on the Customs Operations Advisory Council (COAC) and continues to serve on important NCBFAA Customs Committee Subcommittees and Working Groups.
She has served on the TSN Entry, Legal Policy and International Trade Data Systems committees. She concluded two terms on the Board of the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey and has served on the Board of Directors and Industry Leadership Council for the American Association of Exporters and Importers. She lectures frequently here and abroad on U.S. import requirements.
Internationally, Muoio serves as a Director to the International Federation of Customs Brokers and has represented U.S. customs broker interests before the World Customs Organization.
Before joining Barthco/Geodis she taught at the college level in Japan. She continues to pursue studies in the Japanese language. Muoio is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s University with a degree in International Relations.
