The North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) is partnering with Terracon, a leading engineering and environmental consulting firm, to launch its fifth economic development program. This new program will support the conservation and preservation of wetland ecosystems and increase transparency around regulatory compliance for industrial projects in North Carolina.

NCRR’s Wetland Mitigation program aims to preserve and restore North Carolina’s wetlands while balancing the needs of our state’s growing economy and future industrial development projects. In addition, the program will support compliance with environmental regulations and benefit local communities through cleaner water and improved habitats for wildlife.

“Integrating sustainable principles into economic development isn't just a choice, but a pathway to balanced prosperity. True progress harmonizes environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sound governance, creating a future where growth and well-being go hand in hand,” said Trish Haver, NCRR’s chief commercial officer. “By partnering with Terracon, this program will drive meaningful advancements in wetland preservation and restoration throughout North Carolina, all while supporting economic development across the state.”

By connecting economic and industrial developers with wetland mitigation credits, the program will encourage environmental regulatory compliance, streamline the permitting process, and maximize land use and cost savings for new projects, thereby encouraging future investments in the state’s economy.

The collaboration between NCRR and Terracon marks a significant milestone in environmental stewardship. By launching the innovative wetland mitigation program, these two organizations are safeguarding North Carolina’s natural resources and supporting a sustainable future for transportation infrastructure.
