During the June 8 Regular Port Commission Meeting, the commissioners elected Ravi Singhania as Chairman of the Port Commission. The other officers are Rob Giesecke, Vice Chairman; Barbara Fratila, Secretary; and Kim Kincannon, Assistant Secretary. Also serving on the Port Commission are Rudy Santos and Dan Croft.
Ravi Singhania has served on the Port Commission since 2007 and has held the positions of Secretary, Vice Chairman, and Chairman. Singhania first moved to Brazoria County when he started his career in 1968 at BASF Corporation’s Freeport, Texas site. During his 37+ year career at BASF, he served 12 years as the General Manager of the Freeport site.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to serve this community and the Port Commission during this time of growth and momentum on the Freeport Harbor Channel deepening and partial widening project,” Chairman Ravi Singhania said. “It is through collaboration with my fellow commissioners, Port staff, our Navigation District communities, and industry partners that Port Freeport will continue to support sustainable economic growth and job creation for Brazoria County and the surrounding region. This includes the recognition of the importance of environmental and social factors in our planning and decision-making.”
Port Freeport is a leading port in the export of crude oil and natural gas liquids and ranked 6th in chemicals, 17th in foreign waterborne export tonnage, and 26th in containers. A 2022 Economic Impact Study by Texas A&M Transportation Institute revealed that, nationally, the Freeport Harbor Channel generates 266,300 jobs and has a total economic output of $157.3 billion.
