Port of Hueneme unveils new EV charging stations for the community and customers

Port of Hueneme, California - The Port of Hueneme continues to show its commitment to environmental stewardship by unveiling two new electric vehicle charging stations available to the public. In highlighting the new zero emission infrastructure, Board President Mary Anne Rooney stated, “these new stations are evidence of the Port’s ever-growing efforts to be responsible stewards of the environment and good neighbors. We hope that not only Port customers and employees will utilize them, but that residents of the surrounding community will take advantage of these state-of-the-art charging stations as well.”

This ready to use infrastructure is in fulfillment of the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District’s (VCAPCD) Air Quality Management Plan and the Port’s Environmental Framework. These new stations were funded in part through a VCAPCD Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Program grant. “We are grateful to the VCAPCD team who awarded the grant to fund this project and look forward to continuing to make meaningful improvements that build upon existing projects like shoreside power, battery power storage, and zero/near zero emission vehicles on port,” said Kristin Decas, CEO & Port Director of the Port of Hueneme.

The two stations are located at 333 Ponoma Street and 105 E. Port Hueneme Road in front of the Port’s administrative buildings. Each station has the capability to charge two vehicles at once. The charging system uses the ChargePoint technology and will fully charge an electric vehicle within four to five hours. They join an increasing network of ChargePoint stations throughout Ventura County and can be located with a smartphone’s map app and on the ChargePoint website, making driving electric and hybrid vehicles more convenient. The Port is proud to begin offering this service to their employees, customers and the general public.
