This new transload operation will be adjacent to the Port’s container berths and Neo-Panamax Cranes. One of the key benefits of this new service is the substantial efficiencies it will provide to customers.

“By eliminating the off-port dray, this new on-terminal offering will increase efficiency and reduce the overall transportation expense for customers,” said Eric Howell, PortCity CEO. “This expansion with the NC Ports team is a testament to our commitment to the Wilmington market and to the success of our clients.”

PortCity, the operator, has vast industry experience, including steel, pulp and paper, retail and home goods, building materials, heavy equipment, plastics and more. PortCity’s high throughput import/ export volume, innovative peel pile programs and pallet in, pallet out services, combined with NC Ports’ world-class productivity, ensures cargo moves efficiently from port to destination without unnecessary delays.

“With PortCity’s highspeed transload solutions combined with our team’s top-ranked productivity levels, we ensure seamless freight management and swift market entry,” said Brian E. Clark, Executive Director, North Carolina State Ports Authority. “We strive to accommodate the needs of our customers, and this unique on-port transload operation will provide an additional innovative supply chain solution for Wilmington port users.”

NC Ports will provide PortCity with the space for the transload operation with additional flex space available.

The PortCity team will use this space while they continue to make progress on the company’s near-port facility. PortCity will be investing $25 million in a new facility on Raleigh Street less than a mile away from the Port of Wilmington’s container terminal. This facility will add approximately 150,000 square feet of cross-dock warehouse space to the Wilmington market and create 75 new jobs.

North Carolina is home to major industries, such as textiles and apparel, retail and home goods, furniture, hardware, agriculture, pulp and paper, steel, and more, making PortCity’s presence in Wilmington a crucial part of serving these markets.
