NORFOLK, VA – The Port of Virginia’s® ongoing messaging and outreach efforts has earned 10 awards from the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) in the industry trade group’s annual communications awards. The awards recognize excellence in port communications and illustrate the port’s successful efforts to report statistics, announce developments and promote its brand. The port submitted 10 projects for consideration in 10 separate categories such as event coverage, periodicals, promotional materials and community outreach: each submission received an award. Of the 10 submissions, six won Awards of Distinction and four won Awards of Merit. Last year, the port won three distinction and two merit awards and one Award of Excellence. “The incredible momentum of the port has provided a great opportunity to tell our story,” said John Reinhart, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority. “Our messaging and communication efforts have helped capture the progress and importance of our port and convey it to the industry, to the public, to our elected officials, to our stakeholders and to potential port users. Moving forward, we will continue evolving and pushing our message in an effort to best represent The Port of Virginia, its capabilities, its brand and our core values. ” When judging for these awards, an independent team backed by the AAPA considers a variety of criteria that demonstrate effective communications projects, including research, clarity and creativity. The Port of Virginia will be recognized in October at the AAPA’s 106th Annual Convention and Expo, along with the other winners of the Communications Awards Program.
