New York, NY - RailWorks Corp., North America’s leading rail infrastructure solutions provider, is maintaining and improving rail infrastructure on an important stretch of track in Southern California via a new contract with Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA).
RailWorks, via its Track Services subsidiary, will inspect and maintain more than 65 miles of freight rail track owned by the ACTA, including 125 turnouts, 10 rail bridges, signals at 48 locations; 7 grade crossings and 50 other communications assets, under terms of the five-year contract. The Alameda Corridor is 20-mile dedicated freight expressway linking the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to the transcontinental rail network near downtown Los Angeles. The Trench is the centerpiece of the Corridor and carries freight trains in an open trench that is 10-miles long, 33-feet deep and 50-feet wide between State Route 91 in Carson and 25th Street in Los Angeles. The Alameda Corridor, which opened in 2002, was built by ACTA, a joint powers authority governed by the cities and ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Roughly 36 trains per day currently travel through the Alameda Corridor. Each train is about two-miles long and carries roughly 300 containers each
