The crane ship bringing the largest container cranes ever to Oakland is right off the coast of Northern California in Drakes Bay. The vessel Captain plans for the ship to sail from Drakes Bay early Wednesday morning, Dec.30, bringing the ship under the Golden Gate Bridge at approximately 8 a.m., weather permitting.

The cranes fully assembled are too large to fit under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. The ship’s crew  “lowered the booms” today, while the vessel was anchored in Drakes Bay.

With the crane booms lowered, then the ship and the cranes will easily clear the bridges. This is a historic moment for Port of Oakland and the region. After entering the Bay the ship will go to anchor, lower the booms, and then remain at anchor out for several days while final preparations are made for the vessel to come into the Port of Oakland and dock.
