Diversified Ag Company is Long-Time Port User
NORFOLK, VA – The Andersons, a diversified company rooted in agriculture and long-time user of The Port of Virginia, is the recipient of the port’s 2018 Shipper of the Year award.
The Andersons has operated a facility in Norfolk near Norfolk International Terminals since 2014, but has been a partner with the port for decades through interior locations that move containers to the port via rail. Between the strategic location, economics, fast turn times and the supportive relationship with the port, the company has continued to grow and increased its volume through The Port of Virginia by more 12,000 TEUs (twenty- foot equivalent units) in the past year. The company is expanding its Norfolk facility to increase business, create efficiencies and expand services.
“Every day The Andersons puts its merchandising expertise to work for its customers – physically purchasing, transporting and delivering its products across North America and internationally,” Capozzi said. “The Andersons container business has created a strong team infrastructure dedicated to establishing relationships with steamship lines, truckers, facilities and ports such as The Port of Virginia. We look forward to many more years of working with this company and accommodating its growth.”
“We want to thank The Port of Virginia, which has been a valued business partner of ours for years,” said Trevor Moore, logistics manager for The Anderson’s trade group. “As I look in the room I see many people, trucking companies, rail carriers, ocean carriers and others who were pivotal in our own growth and ability to win this award. ”
The Andersons, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANDE) conducts business in the commodity trading, ethanol, plant nutrient and rail sectors. In January, Lansing Trade Group became part of The Andersons, which has held various levels of ownership in Lansing for many years.
