Three Modulift-designed and manufactured spreader beams were used by one of the largest transport and heavy lift companies, Allelys, to lift a 176t steam turbine generator on the East coast of England.
“Modulift spreader beams were used in a 1-over-2 configuration to lift the steam turbine generator safely from port to vessel with a LG1550 mobile crane. The generator measured 14m long, 4.8m wide and 4.5m high, so specialised transportation and lifting equipment was a must” said Shahid Islam, Project Manager at Allelys.
Islam continued “The team executed the lift successfully within a very tight timeframe, with safety being the most critical factor in the project. The spreader beam configuration included a MOD® 250 at 5m on the top, with MOD® 110 and 110H spreader beams underneath.”
“The MOD® spreader beams are lightweight, easily assembled and can be re-used for different lifts. We can always rely on our products being safe and reliable as they are DNV Type Approved and ready to use on-site” said Sarah Spivey, Managing Director at Modulift.
Modulift is globally recognised as the market leader below-the-hook. The MOD® spreader beam is the linchpin in Modulift’s product offering. A versatile foundation that seamlessly modifies into the shackle-free Trunnion, and CMOD® & TriMOD spreader frames. The MOD® is available from 6t to 2000t at a span of 0.4m to 36m.
Spivey added “Because MOD® spreader beams are reusable, they are the obvious choice for transportation companies such as Allelys. Combining them into a 1-over-2 configuration allows for multiple lifting points using just one crane. We are pleased to see Modulift's equipment facilitated the safe lift of this steam turbine engine.”
