At the China International Import Export (CIIE) event, the Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) is showing its extensive connectivity with the Far East and the competitiveness of its infrastructures and services that position it as a strategic hub in the Mediterranean for maritime traffic between Europe and Asia. At this event, the PAV has a stand managed by Chinese commercial agents and a personalised virtual service from Valencia with the prescribers for the exchange of information on the services and opportunities for Chinese and Asian companies offered by Valenciaport.

With this double attention to the Asian market - the CIIE is one of the world's leading trade fairs in the logistics sector - Valenciaport ensures the continuity and updating of contacts in a decisive forum for world trade that derives from the Asian basin. Despite the COVID-19, Valenciaport could not fail the CIIE; and in fact the health and economic crisis resulting from the pandemic has not prevented the PAV sales team from continuing to work with the aim of strengthening leadership in Asian markets. A position which facilitates access to the main ports of the Asian market as, via Valenciaport, it has commercial connections with 84 Chinese ports.

It should be noted that 44% of the containers handled to and from China in the Spanish port system are managed from Valenciaport. Of these, 46% are full containers (imports), whilst 32% of TEUs that use Spain as a hub to redistribute containers in transit from China pass through Valencia.  Valenciaport is the main port for moving goods from China to North Africa, which represents 70% of the goods unloaded in transit. On the other hand, 50% of the traffic loaded in transit to China comes from Canada and Brazil.

Valenciaport is the fourth European port and the 21st in the world in terms of connectivity, according to data from UNCTAD, the United Nations Organisation for Economic Development; and the main Spanish port in terms of container traffic. From its central position in the Mediterranean, it serves a hinterland that includes - in addition to the Region of Valencia - Madrid, Murcia, Andalucía and Aragon, amongst other regions. All this makes Valenciaport a fundamental logistic enclave for the access of the Chinese community and the cities related to the Silk Route to Spain and Europe.

In this line, the PAV is showing in China that the Valencian port, which combines export/import traffic with transhipments, maintained commercial connections with almost 1,000 ports from 168 different countries during 2019 and operated 98 regular lines managed by 35 different shipping companies.

The PAV is also taking advantage of its presence in this event to disseminate the commitment it is making to new infrastructures, such as the improvement of railway networks and digitalisation platforms, with tools such as ValenciaportPCS which facilitate the management of companies operating in the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandía.

The CIIE of Shanghai is organised by the Ministry of Commerce of China and is held in the National Exhibition and Convention Centre in the district of Qingpu (Shanghai) with the presence of over 3,800 companies from 180 countries and with more than 400,000 visitors. The basic objective of this event is to become a platform for open cooperation at international level, promoting economic globalisation and contributing to the construction of the Silk Road.

Present at major promotional events

Valenciaport continues with its promotional activity in the main world events of the logistics, port and tourism sector to present the new products and services of the Valencian ports to its clients and specifiers. Since the beginning of the year, the commercial activity of the PAV has been present at the most important national and world events related to port activity, a line of work that has been maintained with the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic that has modified many of these events to a virtual format.

The PAV has adapted its promotional and marketing tools to the virtual format for each of the telematic events, which has been combined with the attendance in person at the fairs that have been held such as the China International Logistics and Supply Chain Fair (CILF) or the China International Import Export (CIIE).
