By Stas Margaronis, AJOT A spokeswoman for the Port of San Diego says the port is seeing more project cargo shipments including wind turbine imports and even some exports. Core businesses such as autos “saw an up tick” in 2011 over 2010 shipments, and refrigerated container moves “remained steady” over the same period. The Port is planning $2.5 million in the demolition of existing warehouses to make room for more lay-down area for project cargo, which it sees as an area of continuing growth. Examples in 2011 included the import of a large crane used to move a building in Arizona as well as imports of transformers and generators destined for Southern California end users.
