Delivers ‘Save the Date’ Invitation to Company’s 100 Millionth Delivery
MENLO PARK, Calif - A group of investors gathered at The Rosewood hotel on Sand Hill Road in Silicon Valley had front-row seats to drone delivery history. A Flirtey drone flew to the group of investors and dropped off a package that contained a “Save the Date” invitation to Flirtey’s 100 millionth drone delivery and a gift of a pair of Stance socks. The delivery was conducted during Menlo Ventures’ 40th annual meeting. The delivery was the first drone delivery in Silicon Valley history. Flirtey – which has previously conducted the first FAA-approved drone delivery on U.S. soil in collaboration with NASA Langley Research Center, as well as the first fully autonomous drone delivery from a store to a home in partnership with 7-Eleven – was able to conduct the history-making delivery under new drone regulations passed by the Federal Aviation Administration released on August 29th. The delivery demonstrates how quickly Flirtey has developed a safe and reliable drone delivery system for operation in complex urban environments. Flirtey has already conducted deliveries of Domino’s pizza in New Zealand and delivered 7-Eleven over-the-counter medicine to customers’ homes in Nevada. The investor who received the “Save the Date” invitation by drone was Mark Siegel, managing partner of Menlo Ventures. Siegel is a seed-round investor in Flirtey who saw the company’s potential to revolutionize the delivery industry when the drone delivery company was a part of the Y Combinator start-up incubator. “It is amazing to see how far Flirtey has come since Y Combinator,” Siegel said. “We are very excited to have invested in Flirtey at the ground floor and watch this company take off and revolutionize the delivery industry.” Fresh off a series of industry firsts – the first FAA-approved delivery, the first U.S. ship-to-shore delivery, the first drone delivery from a store to a home – Flirtey is now expanding its food and medicine delivery operations with companies including Domino’s and 7-Eleven. “Completing drone deliveries in the heart of Silicon Valley demonstrates that Flirtey is poised to take drone delivery to the mainstream consumer market in urban centers all across the U.S. and around the globe,” said Matthew Sweeny, Flirtey CEO.
