A new inspector certification examination for refrigerated containers is available for interested candidates to take in both English and Spanish. The Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL), which recently launched a Spanish version of the container exam, also developed a Spanish version of the refrigerated container exam a result of requests received from various depots, inspectors and shipping personnel during the various face-to-face courses that have been promoted in Latin America and USA locations during the past few years.
Upon registering to take the exam, candidates will be able to select between the English and Spanish versions. Candidates must decide in which language they want to take the exam at the time of registration. The examination period will take place from 28 January – 30 June 2021 at a cost of $650 USD for either version of the certification examination. All candidates who pass the exam will receive an IICL certificate. The certification is valid for five years, after which, an inspector must pass the exam again to become re-certified. Certified inspectors are listed in the IICL Inspection Directory, which is updated annually. The Directory also includes companies that employ IICL-certified inspectors and features professional advertisement listings by depot/repair and surveying companies.
The IICL Technical Director, Luiz Gonçalves said “The launching of the Refrigerated Container Inspector Certificate program addresses an important segment in our industry. Due to the nature of refrigerated cargoes, the equipment needs to be in sound and reliable operating condition to perform as designed and expected. Proper inspection and repairs are a critical factor in the process. Certified inspectors will be demonstrating their knowledge in the process to ensure proper and safe operations. The exam was created to test not only candidates’ memory but also knowledge on refrigerated containers.”
