During the dog-days of August I had a conversation with an overseas colleague and discussed the COVID-19 lockouts, and all the industry conventions, expos and meetings missed. And one meeting that came to mind was the Port of New York/New Jersey Port Industry Day, which is coming up on Monday, September 12th.

It’s hard to imagine another single-day event quite like Port Industry Day, which is now 20 years old. The event has always been a window into what’s happening not only in the New York/New Jersey port region but the industry as a whole. A place to rub elbows with colleagues from far and near and sample local food.

The meeting is always packed with a who’s who of government leaders and industry executives. This year’s event, which takes place Monday, September 12, 2022, is no exception. Among the speakers already inked in are Daniel Maffei, FMC Chairman; Rebecca Dye, FMC Commissioner; Lucinda Lessley, MARAD Deputy Administrator; General Stephen Lyons, Port and Supply Chain Envoy on the Federal Government side. And there are plenty of other notables hailing from all sectors of the shipping industry, like Jonathan Gold from the National Retail Federation, Alison Leavitt with the Wine and Spirits Shippers Association, John Butler of the World Shipping Council, John Nardi of the New York Shipping Association, Bethann Rooney from the Port of New York/New Jersey Port Authority, Thomas Heimgartner from the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers, Jake Gilene of TRAC Intermodal, Chris Garbarino from the Port Newark Container Terminal, Courtney Robinson of APM Terminals and others.

Port of New York/New Jersey Port Industry Day might just be the best one-day event for the industry - a worthwhile take on September 12 at Liberty House, Liberty State Park, Jersey City, New Jersey.
