The Pool of Pools (PoP) has announced that it will be extending the operation of the new start/stop located at the Barracuda Yard between ETS and FMS off Earle Street through the end of Q121. This start/stop, which is operated by Innovative Terminal Services, will continue to accept empty container returns for certain ocean carriers who have made arrangements for storage there, as well as bare chassis returns for any PoP-contributed chassis at least through the end of March 2021. As a reminder, motor carriers with empty container return authorization at the Barracuda Yard have the option of dropping the wheeled setup at in-gate or having the empty container removed so that the chassis can be repurposed for a new transaction.
Since opening in December of last year, this additional off-terminal location has helped to address ongoing congestion issues within the San Pedro Basin by decreasing local equipment turn-times and improving productivity. Ocean carriers interested in using this facility should contact Innovative regarding container storage terms and their individual PoP IEP about any anticipated chassis requirements for such storage.
At the end of the first quarter, the Pool of Pools will again evaluate usage trends and announce any changes in the location’s status following that evaluation.
